Our textbook is “Introduction to Probability for Data Science” by Dr. Stanley Chan.

Oh My Question!

Oh My Question! is a new experiential learning we (Prof Stanley Chan and his teaching team) design and implement for Spring 2024. In “Oh My Question!” you create problems, prepare solutions, and present your answers to your peers. The motivation is to improve the learning of students (i.e., you!!) by encouraging you to think about probability and random processes in daily life. Our goal is to fight against comments such as “this class is boring”. More details are available here.

The written questions are due Friday at 11:59pm on Feb 9th and March 29th. The oral due date is before those dates, and a specific time is yet to be determined.

The grades will be curved. The breakdown is below:

  • Homework: 10%. Lowest HW score is dropped.

  • Oh My Question!: 20%

  • Midterm Exam 1: 20%

  • Midterm Exam 2: 20%

  • Final Exam: 30%

The midterms are scheduled for Feb 15th and April 4th. Email Dr. Chan directly to request the alternative exam time. Unless the circumstance is exceptional, we do not offer make-up exams.

Homework is posted to Gradescope and due Fridays at 11:59pm.

Please submit your requests through DRC, and reserve your exam times with DRC early.
